ALS AssociationCHAPTER PRESIDENT & CEO TESTIFIES BEFORE CALIFORNIA SENATE
Greater Los Angeles Chapter President & CEO Fred Fisher and others provided testimony before the Senate Health Committee on April 16, 2008 in support of SB1503, The ALS Association's Standard of Care Bill. Fisher addressed the Committee on the nature of the disease, its unique impact on veterans, and an explanation of the importance of the Centers of Excellence. The bill was overwhelmingly approved by the Senate Health Committee and passed with zero "no" votes and with all attending committee members requesting to be added to the bill as co-authors.

ALS AssociationCALIFORNIA ALS ADVOCACY COMMITTEE SUBMITS STATE LEGISLATION

The California ALS Advocacy Committee introduced two bills in the state Legislature, both authored by the Senate Majority Leader-elect, Senator Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento. SB 1502 allows California taxpayers to designate an amount of their tax return be donated to the Lou Gehrig's Disease Research Fund. The second bill, SB 1503, carves out a place for ALS in the California Health and Safety Codes and recognizes the Centers of Excellence. Senate Concurrent Resolution 105 designates May as ALS Awareness Month.

ALS Association2008 is the chapter's 20th year anniversary!

We are proud of the service and support we have provided ALS patients, families, and caregivers since 1988. In the last eight years alone we have grown from a handful of volunteers serving about 100 families in 2000 to a staff of more than a dozen today reaching over 450 PALS in a seven-county area. Click here to see hundreds of photographs from our last 20 years, and read a list of highlights from each year of the Chapter’s history, interviews with some of the founders and others who have contributed to our success, an essay on our early years, and so much more! We want to thank everyone who made the Greater Los Angeles Chapter what it is today.
